Image Galleries & Older Work:

Note from Cindy Vojnovic, 1-29-10

The first three categories have galleries, click on the heading and then o.k. for your browser to display the flash image gallery. I'm still working on the remaining categories, and add more works to all the galleries as I have time to digitally document more of my work

Recent Works In Oil

I am currently working in this style, and the link above is to a gallery of mostly new work. The work I label as "Subjective" is figurative topics observed from my life and developed over a period of time in the studio, which distinguishes them from the life drawings and paintings which are done en plein air in far less time and generally without any preparatory study.

Before and during the Shape Constructions series, I experimented with both figurative and non-objective drawings and paintings. Gathering the various threads I had been following onto the same canvass began what I call my "sythesized" work. This series spans a long period of time, and could easily be split into a number of galleries.

Shape Constructions
This series was done in New York between 1982 and 1984. I was much enchanted by the Russian Avant Garde Constructivist movement, and was keen to see what cold be done with flat shapes of color in figurative paintings.

Iconography
For a number of years I was a student of the Prosopon School of Iconology
where I studied with Jennifer Perkins, Dmitri Andreyev & school founder Vladislav Andreyev. A gallery of icons I've "written" will be posted soon.

Life Drawing and Painting
This is essentially self-explanatory, works done from direct observation only, that is without any form of preparatory studies that are generally done much more quickly than studio works. While I don't have a gallery ready to post for these works yet, if you scroll down you can see "Memorial Hike" which is a study from life that was done in a single session. While "On the Bed" is from the same sketch book, it was actually done over a number of lunch breaks from photo references.

Non-objective
As almost a bookend to my drawings and paintings from life, I've also done extensive drawings and paintings without any figuration. I see both the non-objective (what most people would call abstract) and life drawings & paintings in a very similar light, that is, as studies and learning tools. Throughout the history of art, what the artist considers preparatory work or a learning experience might be considered by others to be art works in their own right. In any case, I hope to post a gallery of this kind of work soon.

Homage
There is a long history in art of artists studying the work of other earlier artists by copying it. While I have made some fairly accurate copies of earlier artists' work, especially that of Peter Paul Rubens, some of what I consider "homage" is actually original work not after any particular earlier work, done "in the style of" another artist. I consider these last three categories, Life Drawing & Painting, Non-objective Drawing & Painting along with Homage to be part of the "reasearch and development" of my art.Again, I don't have a gallery of this work prepared for the web at this time.
